A digital video recorder is a combination of a video camera and a recorder that relies on digital technology for image and sound capturing. It has become common practice to refer to the device as camcorder only. The images are clearer with lower light capability. Yet, the storage capacity of the digital camcorder should not be overlooked either. There is no fading, color change or color bleeding in the use of the digital devices, which makes the digital video camcorder superior to any analog device.

As for technical performance, statistics indicate that the Betacam so far offers the best digital formats for the editing of materials. As compared to analog recordings, there is no noise or other background problems in digital connections. Plus, time does not affect the quality of the stored materials. Yet, in case of some technical problem, you can lose all the archives from the digital video camcorder.
