From my experience with creating websites and content, I have found much more enjoyment with creating content for topics that interest me.  For example, I have a very small niche site, www.ExplorerXP8.com.  This site is about a special edition Saleen Ford Explorer.  I happen to have an obsession with the vehicle, even though I do not own one of my own.  My point is that I love creating content for the site, so therefore, it is much more enjoyable to work on it in my free time.  Find a topic that you love to write about and then monetize it using some of the tactics in the next tutorials.
 
Do be careful though, make sure that it is a topic that people want to read about!  For example, if you want to create a site about your family, then that is great.  However, it will be much harder to monetize it because not everyone in the world wants to read about your family (No offense intended).  Choose a topic that other people would be interested in and you will have a much easier time driving traffic to the site, thus giving you more money in the end.
